Contents page sketch

My contents page will consist of the all the main articles and pictures that relate to each article. They will be divided into sections of '1-5' '6-10' '11-12' etc. The featured article will be the biggest section so that the reader will be looking at it more than the others as it is more important. There will be an advertisement that concerns hip-hop fans e.g. a concert ticket competition for one of the rappers.

Front cover sketch

The name of my magazine is ‘Tempo’ because tempo links to the music vocabulary and  it sounds very catchy. In the masthead there is a slick design  that goes through the  name of the magazine which may catch people attention and draw them to the magazine.
Next to the bar code there is a box which will consist of the media convergence; website, twitter page, instagram page etc. IT will also contain the date of when the magazine is published and the issue number.
On the bottom right corner is the puff to draw more people to the magazine if they are not interested in the appearance or content on the magazine. Also most people who read hip-hop magazines are main-streamers, which is a fairly average age group of people and they are interested in new technology like a mac book.
There will be headlines/sell lines on the front cover to present the content of the magazine. which will contain the main headline and a small description of the main story/article.
My front cover model will be a male, it will be a mid-shot of him and he will be looking straight at the camera with the typical hip-hop clothing and props e.g. jewelry.

Industry Research: Mood Board

From this mood board, I can evaluate that most rapper wear gold chain necklaces which could portray their status of how they have a high status in the industry. They wear more than one chain which shows that they are wealthy and prestige.
They also usually wear dark clothing which could show how they are masculine and deep. Dark could symbolize negative feelings and evil which most rappers present themselves as in their songs. Hip hop artists also wear baseball caps and snap-backs as they started trending in the hipster society as most people thought it looks cool and fashionable. This is how the main-streamers get their fashion sense as most main-streamers listen to hip hop.
Furthermore, a lot of rappers have multiple tattoo's, this could represent that they are ghetto and to make themselves look more 'cool' which is what most rapper aspire to do.

Industry Research: How rap became a big genre in the the industry

New York was the birthplace of hip-hop, but in the early 1990s the West Coast started to become the epicenter of rap music, thanks in large part to Death Row Records' release of Dr. Dre's 1992 album The Chronic and Snoop Doggy Dogg's 1993 album .  Los Angeles was beginning to usurp New York's throne for hip-hop supremacy.

In 1993, Sean "Puff Daddy" Combs founded Bad Boy Records, based in New York.  The following year, Bad Boy released debut albums from New York rappers The Notorious B.I.G. and Craig Mack.  The albums' successes rejuvenated East Coast hip-hop.

Oakland based rapper Tupac Shakur then created a rivalry with Biggie, alleging him and Puff Daddy to have created an incident in which Tupac was robbed and shot five times in the lobby of a New York recording studio.  Biggie's track "Who Shot Ya?" was released soon after Tupac's attempted murder.  Biggie and Puff Daddy denied involvement in the shooting and claimed that "Who Shot Ya?" was recorded prior to the incident, but Tupac and the majority of the hip-hop community viewed the track as a taunt at Tupac.
